Energy Utilities Services (EUSR) Arqiva and MATS (MAST and Towers Group) approved course
This course looks at educating the new starter to the telecoms industry with the minimum level of training to work in the industry.
It covers EUSR Rooftop Worker - Safety and Access, MATS / EUSR Initial Climber course, Radio Frequency awareness and the Emergency First Aid at Heights
The TRS Safety Training Passport course is aimed at providing information and training for workers who need to access and work on towers, masts and structures and rooftops on either protected or unprotected areas using work restraint, work positioning or fall arrest equipment. The TRS Safety Training Initial Climber course covers all the areas set out in the British standards, BS EN 8437: Selection and use of fall protection equipment.
The course is a 5 day course and looks at many of the safe systems and methods of work needed to gain access to working environments in the telecommunications and construction industry.
Day 1 and day 2, Initial Climber training
Day 3 incorporates the Tower rescue content of the course.
Day 4 Rooftop Worker - Safety and Access and RF Awareness
Day 5 Emergency First Aid at heights
The Initial Climber course practical sessions are delivered on outdoor training towers or structures. So students are advised to bring with them appropriate clothing for the prevailing weather conditions and all the appropriate PPE indicated in the course joining instructions
Initial Tower Climber course approval: This climbing course is a EUSR / Radio Structures certified course and for those workers needing to gain access on the Arqiva Gateway, This course covers all the content needed for Arqiva certification for working on telecommunications structures.
Certificate validation:
This course currently has a certificate validation for 1 year and is refreshed annually by attending a 1 day Basic climber refresher course (formally Tower Rescue). The course fees include £30.00 for the EUSR ID card.
Initial Tower Climber prerequisites: The student needs no previous experience but must be comfortable with climbing or working at heights. Minimum age 18 and students must have a good understanding of spoken and written English. A fit for work declaration will need to be completed before start of course.
Course content: The course covers all the areas needed for the worker to gain knowledge and experiences at working in an advanced climber environment. The following areas are covered within the course content, Categories of Heights-Working at Heights Legislations - Hierarchy of Measures - Hazard Identification - Risk Assessments - Basic RF hazards - Emergency considerations - Access and Egress implications - Correct selection of PP - Daily Inspection procedures of PPE - setting up safe systems of work - Use of Work positioning - Work restraint and fall arrest equipment - Safe climbing techniques on fixed ladders and external structures, masts and towers - basic knots - basic anchor systems - Basic safe lifting techniques.
Assessment procedure The Initial Climber course has an ongoing practical assessment throughout the course and a questions and answers paper on completion of the course to gauge your understanding of the course content. Assistance will be given for those who may need it.
Radio Frequency Awareness
Introduction
Radio Structures will be running the above course at our premises in Northampton. The course is aimed at workers that may need to gain access on rooftops where there is no fall potential. Also work environments where the worker may encounter situations where Radio Frequency appliances are in situ.
The RF course is aimed at introducing the worker or member of the public to the risks of either working or being located around telecommunications and broadcasting RF equipment.
About the programme
The programme is structured around classroom theory of hazard analysis and risk control with non practical training. It will culminate in a simple written assessment on completion of the knowledge and skill acquisition stage.

Validity
First Aid at Heights (Emergency First Aid)
Introduction
Radio Structures will be running the above course at our premises in Northampton. The course is aimed at workers that may need a First Aid Certificate to comply with current Health and Safety regulations and third party requests for all workers to have the relevant training or qualifications.

Validity
After successful completion of the First Aid course, this certificate will be valid for a 3 year period.
Certification
Certification will be through TRS Safety Training. Upon successful completion of the course, each student will be awarded a Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work / Heights certificate.
Instruction
Instruction will be delivered by experienced working at heights and First Aid qualified Instructors. Delegates will be expected to undertake an element of physical movement on the course and those suffering from pre-existing medical conditions that may be aggravated by load lifting are advised to contact the Centre staff before commencing.
Rooftop Access / Worker
Introduction
Radio Structures will be running the above course at our premises in Northampton. The course is aimed at workers that may need to gain access to rooftops to do their day to day work, but due to legislation need to have in place a Safe system of work and safe methods of work applications and procedures. It will cover all aspects of Rooftop safety using work positioning, work restraint and fall arrest equipment to work in an unprotected rooftop edge.
About the programme
The programme is structured to balance the theory of hazard analysis and risk control with practical training involving realistic work and emergency scenarios. It will culminate in a practical and simple written assessment on completion of the knowledge and skill acquisition stage.

Emergencies
Pre-requisites
All delegates need no prior knowledge or experiences before attendance. Candidates need to be beware they will be asked to carry out tasks at height and use manual handling techniques to carry out these tasks. Anyone with a fear of heights or with a back injury is advised not to attend.
Validity
After successful completion of the Rooftop Access course, this certificate will be valid for a 3 year period.
Certification will be through Radio Structures accreditation in accordance with the BS8454 and BS8437 standards. The course is a recognised by EUSR certification.
Instruction will be delivered by experienced Working at heights and Rescue Trainers. Delegates will be expected to undertake an element of manual handling on the programme and those suffering from pre-existing medical conditions that may be aggravated by load lifting are advised not to participate. A certificate of medical fitness and understanding of risk must be signed by all participants on joining; if there is any doubt concerning medical fitness, delegates are advised to seek advice from their local GP prior to attendance or contact Radio Structures on the contact details below.
